Taking Turmeric Leads to Weight Loss

To combat this, some people resort to surgery. But there are natural ways to fight back against obesity.

Following a strict diet and exercising is the best way to achieve weight loss and rid yourself of obesity.  In maintaining a strict diet, adding certain spices such as Turmeric to your food has been proven to be effective to help you achieve weight loss.

Studies have shown that adding turmeric to your food for weight loss may aid in preventing fat from regrowing after weight loss has been achieved.

In May 2009, the Tufts University published a study in Journal of Nutrition about the effects of Curcumin to fat cells. Curcumin, the main active ingredient in turmeric, was injected into the fat cells of mice. Curcumin prevented the growth of new blood vessels within the fat. This in turn reduced weight gain.

Other studies have also shown that turmeric will help increase the flow of bile in your stomach. This in turn helps break down the fat in your body. In fact, taking one teaspoon of turmeric before you take your meal will help your body break down the fat that leads to weight gain. Taking turmeric helps suppress fat growth.

Turmeric also helps combat resistance to insulin, and helps manage your sugar levels.  This prevents you from keeping extra fat in your body, while also helping you to avoid diabetes. If you already suffer from diabetes, taking turmeric will help you manage your glucose levels.

Taking turmeric and other spices (such as chili powder, cumin, ginger, mustard, cayenne pepper) also helps increase your metabolism, which will cause you to burn more calories.

So to help achieve weight loss and combat obesity, do the following: exercise regularly, follow a strict diet, and add spices such as turmeric to your food intake.

How much turmeric should you take for weight loss or weight management? In India, the daily average consumption is 60 to 200mg of curcumin, or 2 to 2.5 grams of turmeric.
